A fun and free interactive concert with fantastic musician, artist, and author Sarah Martin for families with children of all ages! Sarah will share her songs and celebrate her new coloring book, "The Rainbow Workshop Song Coloring Book". The Eldredge Public Library will be hosting the Caregivers Support Group while the Chatham Center for Active Living is under construction. This is never more true than in life with dementia disease. The AFSC offers dozens of online and in-person support groups, facilitated by dementia professionals, that can help everyone in the care continuum get the support they need. Choose from online or in-person general groups for caregivers; men’s groups, spousal groups, and groups for children caring for parents; and conversation groups for people living with memory loss. In-person groups include companion groups for people living with cognitive loss.

(VIRTUAL) When Trees Testify: Reclaiming America's Black Botanical Legacy with Beronda Montgomery

Join us for a riveting conversation with award-winning biologist Beronda Montgomery as we discuss her book,  When Trees Testify: Science, Wisdom, History, and America’s Black Botanical Legacy.  The histories of trees in America are also the histories of Black Americans. Pecan trees were domesticated by an enslaved African named Antoine; sycamore trees were both havens and signposts for people trying to escape enslavement; poplar trees are historically associated with lynching; and willow bark has offered the gift of medicine. These trees, and others, testify not only to the complexity of the Black American narrative but also to a heritage of Black botanical expertise that, like Native American traditions, predates the United States entirely. In  When Trees Testify , award-winning plant biologist Beronda L. Montgomery explores the ways seven trees, as well as the cotton shrub, are intertwined with Black history and culture. She reveals how knowledge surrounding these trees has shaped America since the very beginning. As Montgomery shows, trees are material witnesses to the lives of enslaved Africans and their descendants. Combining the wisdom of science and history with stories from her own path to botany, Montgomery talks to majestic trees, and in this unique and compelling narrative, they answer. Additionally, Beronda pursues this theme in the context of effective mentoring and leadership of individuals, and the role of innovative leaders in supporting success. Beronda is author of two books  When Trees Testify: Science, Wisdom, History, and America’s Black Botanical Legacy  (2026, Henry Holt and Co.) and  Lessons From Plants  (2021, Harvard University Press).

Literary Society

Literary Society is a media mixer for young professionals of the Lower and Mid-Cape Community. This is a opportunity for patrons to talk about the books, shows, and podcasts they are engaging with and hear about what other patrons are enjoying. It is held on a quarterly basis in order to lower the attendance pressure for patrons who have various constraints on their time. Patrons can come and go and are not expected to stay for the whole hour and a half.

EPL Book to Film Discussion Group

Some of the most enduring films have been inspired by great literature. And some books seemed to be nothing special until brought into sharper focus by a great filmmaker. The Eldredge Public Library would like to invite you to join our a book-to-film discussion group.   We each read the pre-selected book for the month, and then meet at the Library to watch the film together and discuss the merits of each. Facilitated by a Library staff member, the group chooses the titles. We are have an interesting exchange of ideas, thoughts, and impressions. This month we turn to a lesser known president -  William Henry Harrison: His wife had more children than any other First Lady. He had a super-catchy campaign song (which we hope to hear!). He was the first president to die in office; shortest presidency. Reading in the Kitchen - Samin Nosrat's "Good Things"

Attention all cookbook lovers!  We invite you to join our  book group: Reading in the Kitchen: A Cookbook Group at the Eldredge Public Library.     The group meets the first Tuesday of each month  (except for this one to accommodate Labor Day!) to taste recipes and discuss cookbooks.  Each month (except July & August) we cook out of a selected cookbook that are available at the Library about 1 month ahead of the meeting date. You let us know which recipe you will cook to share with the other members, and then we meet to sample the recipes and talk about the chosen cookbook and your cooking experience!  A great way to meet fellow foodies and expand your cooking experience. Interested in joining a book club, but worried you won't like the books? Do you already have too many books you want to read? Join Eldredge Public Library's Any Book Club!  Any Book Club is a book club where the members read any book that fits a monthly theme or category and each member will choose their own book for each month. Suggestions for each month will be curated for you in case you would like support in picking a book! We will be using the Mass Center for the Book's 2026 Reading Challenge as our Any Book Club guide. During our meetings each member will have an opportunity to describe and recommend (or not!) the book they read. Feel free to attend even if you haven't read to theme - the more readers and books the better! Please email moderator Victoria Eldridge with any questions. Adult Craft Club - Felted Bookmarks

Welcome to Adult Craft Club! Craft Club is a great way for adults to try new arts and crafts while easing stress and having fun - no experience necessary! Craft Club may feature open crafting, staff-led projects, or art-based programming. All crafts focus more on joy than the outcome, allowing all to tap into their creative freedom.  This month give your books a little company with these cute and fun animal bookmarks! Use one of the templates we provide or make your own based on your favorite animal. Made out of felt sheets these bookmarks will be soft to the touch and colorful enough to put a smile on you face and encourage you to reach for that book you're reading. Participants can make up to three bookmarks if time allows. Go wild and have fun with these felt animal bookmarks! Monthly registration is required to secure your spot and space is limited.   Thanks to the Friends of the Eldredge Public Library and to those who donate craft materials for making this programming possible! We are pleased to offer these programs free of charge to our patrons; however, registration helps us plan materials, staffing, and program costs. If you register for a program and are unable to attend, we kindly ask that you notify the Library as soon as possible so that we may offer your spot to another interested patron. We understand things come up and you occasionally may not be able to attend programs for which you register for. Repeatedly registering for programs and not attending without notice may result in temporary restrictions on advance registration for future programs.
